Prof. Dr. Dirk Vanheule holds law degrees from the universities of Ghent (Licentiate, 1989), Toronto (LL.M. 1991) and Antwerp (Dr.iur. 2001). He is professor of law at the Faculty of Law in Antwerp where he teaches legal methodology, comparative constitutional law, public procedural law and migration and asylum law. He is vice-director the Centre for Migration and Intercultural Studies (CeMIS) at the University of Antwerp.
Since 1990 he has also been a member of the Ghent Bar, practising in the field of administrative, constitutional and immigration law.
